Raymond Gemen of EUFIC, the European Food Information Council, interviewed Ben van Ommen, principal scientist at TNO, the Dutch organisation for Applied Scientific Research, about phenotypic flexibility and metabotypes.

The first concept, phenotypic flexibility, is a measure of health for humans. It's the body's capacity to respond to external dietary or environmental challenges.

"Phenotypic flexibility is a key issue of health."

The second part of the interview is focused on metabotypes, clusters of people that show similar bodily responses to the same diet, which could support the concept of personalised nutrition.

"Grouping people according to certain characteristics or behaviours is more efficient than individual nutrition."
