The Faculty of Nutrition and Food Sciences (FCNAUP) is the youngest organic unit of the University of Porto: it was established in 1996, although it's present name was adopted in 1999.uporto1

The Faculty grew from the Degree in Nutrition of the University of Porto, which was created in 1976 and awarded a 'Bacharelato' degree course in Nutrition. FCNAUP remains the only state Faculty in Portugal awarding the 'Licenciatura' degree course in Nutrition.

This course aims to prepare skilled professionals who are able to perform tasks of orientation and monitoring of regular and special/dietetic nourishment of population in general and in institutions. This is mainly intended to promote health and provide (primary, secondary and tertiary) prevention and treatment of illness.
